Helpful Donations to Care and Share House

Monetary donations are used to obtain food at the Food Bank of the Heartland at significantly reduced prices from grocery retail prices. Care and Share House typically orders between 6,000 to 12,000 lbs. of food from the Food Bank monthly. Donations of money are also used for our operating costs which include utility costs at our two locations, the cost to rent a truck to pick up food from the Food Bank, and the purchase of pantry items not available through the Food Bank. Care and Share House has no costs for administration or rent as our program is run entirely by volunteers and the two locations have been provided rent free by the building owners. Monetary donations go directly to provide services to our clients. Donations may be mailed to:

Donations of food are also very useful to Care and Share House. Basic food items that are helpful include soup, tuna, canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta, rice, cereal, macaroni and cheese boxes, boxed meals such as Hamburger Helper, canned dinners such as Spaghettio’s, Ramen noodles, crackers, and cookies. Other items that our clients appreciate include: instant coffee, tea bags, fresh potatoes, and produce from personal gardens.

The free store that is available to our clients is only possible through donations from the community. We accept and encourage donations of all types of gently used adult clothing, coats, and shoes and all types of gently used children and infant clothing, coats, and shoes. There is always a great need for men’s jeans, shirts, socks, and underwear. Donations of new underwear for young children are also very helpful. Clothing donations should have working zippers and buttons and be free of stains and tears or rips. Household items in good condition are very popular with our clients. We accept dishes, pots and pans, decorative items, toys, books, baby items, glasses, kitchen and eating utensils, towels and washcloths, sheets, blankets, and most any other household item. WE DO NOT accept furniture, TV’s, car seats, or old electronics.

Donations of food, clothing, and household items may be delivered to either location during our open hours and also at 600 South Main on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
